Derived from a childhood memory at the movie theater and witnessed through cracks between fingers, the series draws on anecdotes of parenthood, home and innocence, in its investigation of intimacies. UPDATE, “Apple Orchard, 1982.” 102626.Currently (Fall '26), I am revisiting the work I created in the first year of my fellowship at Cranbrook Academy of Art, mostly installations activated by ritual, using performance art as my medium. I have also used photography as a tool of documentation, captured during critiques from the cohort in the Photography Department. I am looking at the documentation––images, videos, diary entries, text messages, and other residual traces––from a director's perspective, as if the work hasn't&nbsp; taken shape yet, as if I've been given new material to work with. This new approach is allowing me to understand my thought process from a bird eye’s view, so to speak. In my first year, I was too caught up in making the story make sense. I couldn't address the details, what was happening in the moment. The summer came, and I needed a fresh start. I was invited to do a performance piece for an art opening reception in SouthWest Detroit. I took this opportunity to do a ritual to clear all of the energy that wasn’t mine. I cleansed myself using dry corn dough (Masa, Maseca) poured over my body. This event marked a new starting point for myself, and from then, I decided to start from the very beginning of my practice, doing photoshoots on location. <img width="2048" height="1358" [SUICIDE SAUNA] Kiwi with Cherry2/26/26The Garage, GalleryBlack and white 35mm film scans Suicide Sauna is an experiential photo installation from the series “Apple Orchard, 1982.” Basada in a single memory. This fourth iteration looks a la transformación de memorias con acciones íntimas adentro de un carro siendo inundado con una cortina de neblina producida por un steamer. El rayado del cuerpo en medio del sofocante humo, simplemente respirar, se vuelve casi imposible. Las palabras se vuelven slurs, hablando casi en secreto, la comunicación se nubla, aunque todo se siente satisfying. La distancia y los obstáculos dentro del carro; se vuelven como paredes que hay saltar, quien maneja, o quien va en el backseat. All while being documented. Witness use a 35mm camera to photograph what they can and can’t see through the fogged windows. Faces pressed against windows tratando de mirar lo que esta pasando adentro. They all took off right away, but still, the group of three stayed together during the flight, while the fourth one falling behind, tried to join them in mid-air. The three ducks made quick turns, from one side to the other, still really closed together, clearly avoiding the fourth one. After several attempts to join the group of three ducks, the fourth one gave up and made a sharp right turn, and landed on the water by itself. This idea of ‘identity’ came to me a few years back, while I was doing art performances mostly in front of the camera, with no audience except myself and the artist(s) collaborating with me. Back then, I wore a blue Honduran skirt, a sombrero, and a few accessories: sunglasses and a corn kernel necklace that I wore almost all the time. This idea began as a series of digital portraits, and later that same year I introduced it in live actions during an art residency in Guadalajara, México, with other local artists I invited to collaborate with me during a residency tour that the Canada Council for the Arts awarded me.Now that I look back at this work, I can’t help but wonder what this same idea would look like with the new outfit I came up with in the first year of the fellowship at Cranbrook. I am also wondering what this portrait would look like in a different environment, in a living room, a bedroom, etc., using color film.I am trying to warm up my creative juices before the second year starts in less than two weeks, still unsure how I will start, if it means picking up where I left off with the sculpture of the conch, meaning that I’ve been thinking about plastering it, or building a set in my new studio where I will be presenting all of my critiques, doing more public rituals, or creating more props, or even modifiying family&nbsp;heirlooms into sculptural pieces.It all seems
